NürnbergMesse’s fiscal year 2020 was dominated by the impact of the pandemic. “COVID was a flash freeze for our business model. Without our successful Q1 2020 and our systematic cutbacks on expenses and investments, the net loss for the year would have been even more severe”, was the summary given by NürnbergMesse Group CEO Dr Roland Fleck at the company’s hybrid annual press conference today. And more: “NürnbergMesse was able to masterfully protect its liquidity during the crisis, primarily by systematically reducing personnel expenses and material costs, for instance by applying subsidised shortened work schedules and putting a freeze on new hires, as well as deferring investments. This course was and is necessary to create a resilient financial foundation for a sustainable trade fair tandem onsite and online.”

The entire Nuremberg Metropolitan Region is eagerly awaiting the resumption of the trade fairs and congresses. The opening perspective in September lets many industries breathe a sigh of relief whose business is connected with the events of NürnbergMesse, such as the hotel industry, gastronomy, transport companies and exhibition stand builders. Due to the cancellation and postponement of events at the Nuremberg exhibition center, purchasing power effects of 1.55 billion euros failed to materialize last year in Germany alone.

Hall 3C at NürnbergMesse has been converted in recent weeks into the central vaccination centre for the city. It will start work on 15 December and remain in operation until at least 30 June 2021. Medical professionals will be able to vaccinate as many as 1,000 people each day. The international exhibition sector is one of the groups most strongly affected by the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
